The U. S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) approval of its first drug to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in adults is the first in a new series of tests that may change the prescribing of Viagra and other prescription medications in the U. It’s not an easy journey, and the drug will be a big change. But the FDA is pleased to give its first-to-file clinical trial data on the first drug to treat erectile dysfunction in the U. The study will be available by mail to doctors at a participating pharmacy in the U. and shipped to the U. pharmacies with a valid prescription from a licensed physician.
The study, which was presented at the American Society of Clinical Endocrinology’s Annual Scientific Session in San Francisco, includes three-year follow-up data from a clinical study comparing Viagra and Cialis, and will be available by mail to doctors at participating pharmacies in the U. and shipping to the U.
“We are very pleased to be able to help our patients and their doctors understand their treatment options for ED and to be able to have a frank conversation with them about the medication they should be taking,” said Dr. John Smith, director of the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research. “We hope that this breakthrough, this breakthrough in the treatment of ED, will make a positive impact on the lives of millions of men who may have been impacted by this issue.”
Researchers from the American Diabetes Association, the U. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Cleveland Clinic, and the Mayo Clinic are already participating in the study. Viagra is a prescription drug for erectile dysfunction, and Cialis is a prescription medication for the treatment of both ED and diabetes.
“We are extremely pleased that men in the U. who may be taking Viagra or Cialis can now participate in this study,” Smith said. “These results will help make this drug a reality for those who are ready to try it for their ED or diabetes.”
This study will be published in theJournal of Sexual Medicinein the journalArchives of Internal Medicine.

Cialis, the branded version of Viagra, has been on the market for a decade, with sales in the UK reaching $1.6 billion last year, according to data from the European Medicines Agency.
The drug, which contains the same active ingredient as Cialis, is in a class of medicines known as PDE5 inhibitors, including tadalafil and vardenafil, the most well-known class of PDE5 inhibitors.
While ED can be found in both men and women, men are more likely to experience ED when they are taking the drug.
Cialis has a long track record, with more than half a million prescriptions for the drug in the UK last year.
Dr Berkeley Phillips, from the University of Manchester, told the BBC that the drug's success was not just due to the drugs' longer lasting effects.
"This is not a new development, it has been around for a very long time, it has been well received," he said.
"Most people who take the drug think that taking it for more than four months is likely to be dangerous, but in fact, it is the best-known treatment for erectile dysfunction.
"That is the main reason men are more likely to use this drug than women."
Dr Phillips said that many men were able to take the drug without experiencing side effects, which included the loss of sexual desire and erectile dysfunction.
"Many of these side effects were reversible with time, so these effects are reversible," he said.
"In general, this is a new treatment for the majority of men and most people who take the drug experience some degree of sexual dysfunction when they start taking it."
The drug's side effects were mild and transient, and most people who took the drug experienced a "low" to moderate amount of impotence, a disorder known as impotence.
But Dr Phillips said more research was needed on the long-term safety of using the drug.
